When spending time in Bath it is not just the historical attractions that will keep you busy. Those who prefer their holidays to be a little more active will find plenty of outdoors and sporting activities to pass the time here.
Bath is home to a leading rugby team and if you visit during the season then you should definitely take the opportunity to go to a match. The Recreation Ground is home to the team and you will find this close to the city centre. Close by is the cricket club and the leisure centre, so even if rugby does not suit you, there will be something else that does.
You could spend a little time on the golf course too. There are several within easy reach of the city centre or you could spend the day at the races, where a flutter on a horse could make you a bit of profit.
If you time your visit to Bath to take place in May, you could attend the Badminton Horse Trials. These are held in Gloucestershire Park, owned by the Duke of Beaufort and this is an annual event that has been held since 1949. Around a quarter of a million people attend each year, making it one of the most prestigious equestrian events in the calendar.
Walking is a very popular activity in Bath and there is a 6-mile walking trail called the Bath Skyline. Tours can be taken along this trail or you can walk it at your own pace. The trail was planned to offer the walker the best views of the city from a number of different vantage points. For those who prefer not to walk for that distance there are smaller sections such as the family walk where you can enjoy part of the trail without too much exertion.
